Fantasy Three---Modern Classroom---1990s

My third project I started after I retired, although I had been collecting miniatures and materials for this project for a number of years.  This is a model of the second grade classroom in Nederland, Colorado, where I taught in the early 1990s.  It is not the true shape of my real classroom, as that was highly irregular, but it does contain most of the same things as my classroom did.  I did give myself two items I didn’t have but would have liked to have had---a telephone on my desk and my very own copy machine!  The posters and diagrams on the walls are the small illustrations that are on the top of the plastic bags teachers buy which contain the real life punch out posters and diagrams.  The twenty-five students are at Learning Centers because it seemed more interesting than having them all in their seats.  When I first showed this project in the library of my old school the children said it looked real except there were no pencils on the floor.  So after that I always made sure there were a few stray pencils!  When I showed it at the Museum Show in Denver older women would say,”She sure was a messy teacher!”  Younger ones would say,”She must have been a teacher; she knows how it really is!”  I also showed this classroom for several months at the Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls and Toys.  Maureen O‘Donnell of Mini Construction built the classroom to my specifications.
